PHOENIX — A 19-year-old man was taken into custody Sunday morning after police say he trespassed at a private business and damaged a memorial outside Turning Point’s headquarters in south Phoenix.
Officers responded around 9:50 a.m. to the area of 48th Street and Beverly Road after receiving reports of a man damaging a community memorial near the organization’s offices, according to the Phoenix Police Department.
Witnesses helped officers detain the man, later identified as Ryder Corral. Police said no serious injuries were reported during the arrest.
The memorial was connected to Turning Point co-founder Charlie Kirk, who was fatally shot last week at a Utah college — an event that drew national attention and a strong response from supporters.
Due to the “large community presence” at the scene, additional officers were dispatched to assist with traffic control.
Corral was booked into Maricopa County jail on charges of criminal damage and disorderly conduct, police said.
