Phoenix Man Accused of Killing Wife on Halloween Released from Hospital, Booked into Jail

PHOENIX — A 55-year-old Phoenix man accused of fatally shooting his wife on Halloween was released from the hospital and booked into jail on Sunday, according to the Phoenix Police Department and Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office records.

David Pregler was charged with second-degree murder, prohibited weapons possession, and probation violations. His bond was set at $1 million.

Police said the incident happened on Oct. 31 near 89th Avenue and Indianola Avenue, just south of Indian School Road. Officers responding to a shooting call around 5:10 p.m. found David Pregler and his wife, 50-year-old Shonda Lynn Pregler, both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Shonda Pregler later died at the hospital, while David Pregler underwent emergency surgery and remained under medical care until he was medically cleared for transfer to jail.

Detectives determined the shooting stemmed from a domestic dispute. The investigation remains ongoing.
