Two people died Monday after a shooting at a Little Caesars restaurant near Rural and Guadalupe roads, Tempe police said. Officers responded in the morning to find a man and a woman critically injured; both were later pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police said a suspect remained at the scene and was detained as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not released additional information about what led to the gunfire or whether the victims and suspect knew one another.
The incident was the first of two deadly shootings in Tempe that morning. Around 11 a.m., a separate shooting outside Road Runner Sports at Tempe Marketplace left one person dead, and the suspect in that case has not been found.
Tempe police are asking anyone with information about either incident to contact investigators as both cases remain active.
